JUNIOR FIREFIGHTERS
SVFD Junior Firefighter program
“Members With Restrictions”
Springville Volunteer Fire Department is proud to be able to bring our Junior Firefighter program to the Village of Springville. Through the dedicated efforts of several SVFD Officers, Firefighters, SVFC board members, along with assistance from Jr. FF. Program administrators in the Depew Fire Departments, we are now able to offer the youth of our community the opportunity to become part of our Firefighter family. This community and confidence building program is a great opportunity for young adults, between the ages of 14 – 17, to make new and lasting friendships, while learning how to be calm under pressure in multiple aspects of emergency preparedness. There are many benefits that can be discussed further upon interview, such as scholarship opportunities and tuition reimbursement, all while adding experiential knowledge and making lifelong connections that have invaluable influence on character and career.
Why become a Junior Firefighter with Springville Volunteer Fire Department
Aside from the meaningful life experience, personal sense of well-being, and satisfaction that comes with helping those in the worst moments of their lives, there are other benefits to becoming a Jr. Firefighter with SVFD that you might not know about, including but not limited to:
INCREASED CONFIDENCE and SELF-ESTEEM
As you grow and learn in the fire service, you will be better prepared for emergencies as well as everyday life. Many of the lessons learned in training and while working together can convert easily for managing personal, daily experiences. As knowledge and physical movement grow, confidence, self-esteem, and integrity bloom.
FULL BODY WORKOUT
Is the Nintendo Switch controller getting too heavy to hold up? NOT A PROBLEM! Our adventures offer free workouts at every training for every level. You’ll not only be able to get off the couch, but you’ll be able to help someone move it around the room.
INCREASED FLEXIBILITY
Not only will you be able to tie your shoes again (results may vary), but mental flexibility will evolve as you learn to assess situations and make decisions quickly (results may vary).
SELF DEFENSE SKILLS
Learn how to help keep yourself and your family safe in various scenarios. Learn how to spot danger before it becomes an issue, then point out to all your friends the potential hazards around their homes and vehicles.
BE THE CALM IN THE STORM
You will learn to be calm under pressure and keep a level head when the need arises.
IMPROVED SOCIAL SKILLS
By joining, you become part of an extended family that spans the globe. You will receive and manage communications from within the department and on emergency scenes, and also interact with civilians. A member of SVFD, whether a Junior or seasoned firefighter is a direct representative of the integrity and aspirations of our department to the public and should demonstrate decorum at all times, a highly sought-after social skill.
DEVELOP SELF DISCIPLINE
Only you can put the pizza down–however: attending calls when available, taking classes, joining meetings, and drills are all exercises that help us to be more accountable in our personal lives. Having your fellow firefighters back at calls, sharing the workload, and at the same time enhancing the community, does a lot to develop self-discipline and a sense of purpose.
STRESS RELIEF
There are, of course, potential stressors that encompass the daily experience of a firefighter or EMT. If you ever had to do something physically or mentally stressful, you know the feeling of endorphin release, relaxation, and camaraderie that often follow. We make sure our members have moments to gather and have a laugh, a dinner, a beverage, or an activity. All of which strengthen the bonds of friendship and company unity. Another stress relief is knowing that you have 40+ close neighbors, who are now friends, at any given time that will always be there for you and your family.
